Electromagnetic Excitation of ^6He
Abstract
We have performed a kinematically complete measurement of the dissociation of 23 Mev/u ^6He into ^4He+2n on targets of C, Al, Cu, Sn, Pb and U. Neutron energy and angle were measured with the Neutron Wall facility at the NSCL. The angle of the ^4He was measured with ΔE Si strip detectors. The unreacted ^6He and ^4He were magnetically deflected by 20^circ-30^circ into a scintillator array where the ^4He energy was measured. The excitation energy was determined for each event, and the coulomb dissociation cross section as a function of excitation energy was constructed. The photonuclear cross section and dipole strength function were determined from the coulomb dissociation cross section. A post-breakup coulomb acceleration was looked for in each target. Neutron momentum distributions were also constructed. Neutron-neutron angle distributions in the rest frame of ^6He were constructed to study a possible correlation between the halo neutrons.
