Electromagnetic Excitation of ^11Li
Abstract
We have performed kinematically complete measurements of the dissociation of ^11Li into ^9Li + 2n at E/A = 23 MeV on a variety of targets. ΔE and angle measurements for the ^9Li fragments were made by Si strip detectors before the fragments were swept, along with the un-reacted ^11Li, through a dipole magnet into an array of plastic E-detectors. Neutrons produced in the targets were incident upon the Neutron Wall array, which provided measurements of neutron angles and energies. The excitation energy is reconstructed for each three body coincidence, and the coulomb dissociation cross section is mapped as a function of excitation energy. The variety of targets used allows us to subtract out nuclear components of the dissociation cross section, and facilitates a systematic study of post-breakup coulomb acceleration of the core nucleus.
