Measurement of magnetic-dipole transition probabilities using an electron beam ion trap
Abstract
The transition probabilities for magnetic--dipole transitions in highly charged ions are measured using an EBIT. In particular the 3d^4 ^5D_2arrow ^5D3 transition probability in Ti--like Xe (Xe^32+) has been measured. Our result for this transition corresponds to a lifetime of 2.15(14) ms is in good agreement with the theoretical value of 2.4 ms. Transition probabilities corresponding to Kr XXIII and Ar XIV are also presented.
