Parity Violating Asymmetries in ^117Sn
Abstract
Parity violating (PV) asymmetries were studied in ^117Sn by the TRIPLE collaboration, at the MLNSC. Neutron resonances were measured using the ^117Sn(n,γ) reaction, where energies were determined from 1 eV to 1 keV using the time of flight method. PV effects were statistically evident in three p-wave resonances, where PV in only one state had been observed in the past measurements. From these effects, a maximum likelihood analysis was performed to determine the weak mixing matrix element in ^117Sn. The measurement of this matrix element provides constraints on the isoscalar ρ-meson coupling part of the weak nucleon-nucleon meson-exchange potential. The data analysis and the coupling constants in comparison to past determinations of the weak potentials will be discussed.
