Design of the Level-1 Trigger for the PHENIX Detector
Abstract
The PHENIX Level-1 Trigger is designed to select potentially interesting events on-line, reduce the data rate when needed and provide hit patterns as seeds for higher level triggers. It uses parallel, beam-clock pipelined algorithms for six subdetectors and a global box consisting of crossbars and look-up tables for trigger selection. Simulations of the algorithms and the hardware are verifying the feasibility of the scheme.
