The X-ray properties of the radio galaxy B2 1122+39.
Abstract
The radiogalaxy B2 1122+39, associated with two radio jets, has been observed with the PSPC and HRI instruments of ROSAT. An extended X-ray emission from a halo of hot gas (kT ≡ 0.5 keV) surrounding the galaxy has been detected, with brightness distribution consistent with an hydrostatic β model. From the comparison of the X-ray data with radio observations the authors find that the pressure is lower in the jet than in the external gas. The standard equipartition assumptions may not be valid.
