Development of a laser ion source with pulsed ion extraction
Abstract
We are developing a hot-cavity type laser ion source (LIS) for the on-line isotope separation of heavy-ion-reaction products. To optimize the efficiency of the LIS, a lens, which enlarges the laser irradiation volume, was introduced; the lens focuses the laser beams at an orifice of the cavity, which is opposite to the ion extraction orifice, and expand them inside. With a stable a139La isotope, we performed off-line experiments and observed the LIS providing pulsed ion beams, the full width of which was less than 1 μs.
