A decoupled photon-electron transport method for calculation of energy deposition in gamma-ray detectors
Abstract
A computationally efficient method is presented to facilitate the calculation of energy deposition by photons and electrons in gamma-ray detectors for the purpose of determining the response function. The method is based on decoupling photon from electron transport simulation using electron-energy-leakage functions. A variety of detector response functions are calculated for various gamma-ray source arrangements. The results are validated against those obtained using conventional Monte Carlo simulation of coupled photon-electron transport. Analytical functions for the detection efficiency and photopeak efficiency are formulated using data generated by the decoupled photon-electron transport method.
