The Rotational Spectrum of Nitric Acid in the ν5 and 2ν9 Vibrational States.
Abstract
The millimeter/submillimeter rotational transitions of the interacting ν5-2ν9 excited vibrational states of the important atmospheric molecule Nitric Acid (HNO_3) have been measured in the symmetric top limit. Torsional splittings in both vibrational states have been observed. A total of 860 transitions have been measured and assigned in the millimeter and submillimeter spectral regions for these two interacting vibrational states. An analysis has been carried out in which a Fermi interaction between the two vibrational states, 2 sets of 2ν9 rotational constants, and one set of ν5 rotational constants were used to account for all of the perturbation and torsional splitting observed in the spectrum.
