A Decoupled-Recoupled Model for Identical Superdeformed Bands.
Abstract
Analysis of decoupled bands and backbending behavior in deformed nuclei leads to the conclusion that high-spin, superdeformed bands necessarily contain numerous decoupled pairs. Such pairs, having high spin but low Ω values and large coriolis matrix elements, would be expected to recouple among themselves to produce even higher spin states. Sample calculations indicate that it is easy (and expected) to produce multiple states having the same spins and essentially identical moments of inertia. This could be one explanation of observed identical and semi-identical bands.
