Electron Tunneling in Ion Damaged YBa_2Cu_3O_7-δ^1
Abstract
We are studying the effects of ion damamge on the high Tc superconductor YBa_2Cu_3O_7-δ using quasiparticle tunneling spectroscopy. Tunnel junctions have been fabricated on thin films of YBa_2Cu_3O_7-δ after ion damage in a 200 keV Ne^+ beam. The counter electrode in the tunnel junction is the superconductor Pb. Using conventional criteria we determine that tunneling is the dominant mechanism. Previously we have pointed out the similarity in transport between ion damaged YBa_2Cu_3O_7-δ and the substitutional alloy Y_1-xPr_xBa_2Cu_3O_7-δ^2. We will compare the tunneling spectra for the two cases. ^1Research supported by AFOSR Grant No. F49620-92-J0070 ^2J.M. Valles, Jr. et al. Phys. Rev. B 39, 11599 (1989). A.G. Sun et al. Phys. Rev.
