The Structure of the Sliding Charge-Density Wave
Abstract
Using high-resolution x-ray diffraction we measured the phase-phase correlation function of the sliding Q1 charge-density wave (CDW) in NbSe_3. The correlation length in the a direction -- transverse to the CDW wavevector -- falls off monotonically with increasing applied current. Contrary to expectation, there is no observed recorrelation of the phase for currents up to six times that required to make the CDW slide. Furthermore, our preliminary results suggest that, for the studied doping level, there is a common length to which the correlation lengths saturate at high currents ( ~ 1000 ÅThe CDW peak lineshape also changes at high currents indicating a change in the form of the correlation function.
