Abstract
Global Energy and Environmental Solutions is a three year middle school teacher institute consisting of 34 New Jersey public school science teachers. The teachers have committed to spending three consecutive summers in a three week workshop at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory as well as four follow-up sessions during the school year. The goals of the institute are as follows: 1)Increase the participant's knowledge in ecology, energy, environmental science, mathematics, and technology. 2)Design ways of bringing this knowledge into the classroom. 3)Increase the participant's knowledge of the tools and methods of scientific research. 4)Provide the participants with an understanding of the process of change within a school district and the leadership skills necessary to play a role in implementing this change. The institute is taught by scientists, engineers, educators and industry training specialists.
