Generalized free-energy principle and emittance growth
Abstract
The connection between entropy growth and rms emittance growth in linear accelerators is studied. Emittance growth is divided into two classes: reversible and irreversible depending on the corresponding entropy change. A generalized free-energy function is shown to act as a driver for phase space evolution and emittance growth.
