High-Resolution UV Spectroscopy of HD44179
Abstract
We propose to obtain a 1300Angstrom to 1700Angstrom spectrum of HD44179, the central star of the Red Rectangle Nebula, with GHRS using the G140L grating. With this spectrum, it will be possible to resolve and derive accurate wavelengths and strengths of the various unidentified absorption and emission features, and should enable us to identify the molecules responsible for them.
