The Stuff Between the Stars
Abstract
A description of the various forms of interstellar matter is given. Included are cold atomic clouds, warm diffuse atomic gas, coronal gas, molecular clouds, H II regions, and interstellar dust. Temperature, density, and spectral properties of each of these forms is discussed. Attention is also paid the origins of the interstellar matter, interstellar nonequilibrium processes and the role the medium plays in star formation.
