The Search for the KAON+ Going to PION+ Gamma Gamma Decay above the Kaon(pi 2) Peak.
Abstract
The search for the K^+to pi^+gammagamma decay above the K_{pi2} peak using the 1991 data set is described. An exposure of 5.2880times10^{10} {rm K}^+ mesons was achieved in the 1991 AGS run while the pigamma gamma(1) trigger was active. With a pigammagamma decay acceptance of (1.50 +/- 0.24) times 10^{-4}, a stopping fraction of.591 +/-.012, and a combined statistical and systematic relative error of 16%, a 90% c.l. upper limit for the K^+topi^+ gammagamma decay channel of 5.02 times 10^{-7} was measured. A constant matrix element for this decay channel was used in the acceptance calculation. 90% c.l. upper limit is also calculated for a _chiPT predicted decay matrix element as well as for the process rm K^+topi^+ X ^0,X^0togammagamma, where rm X^0 is a massive short lived particle.
