Photoradiation chemistry of polymers
Abstract
Upon exposure of polymers to ionizing radiation, such products as the exited molecules, cations, anions, trapped electrons and free radicals are generated. These intermediates absorb light efficiently in UV, visible and IR regions of the spectrum. The mechanism and efficiency of photoradiation reactions depend on the nature of the intermediates, temperature and spectral composition of light. Photoradiation reaction differs from a purely radiation reaction, in particular, the type and amount of products depend on the dose rate and light intensity, highly inhomogeneous spatial distribution of products caused by chain mechanism of the photoradical reactions.
