High-resolution alpha particle spectroscopy using CN-85 cellulose nitrate nuclear track detector
Abstract
The sensitivity function V( R) of cellulose nitrate CN-85, nuclear track detector for alpha particles has been determined in the energy range 0.50-8 MeV. The theory of etch-track kinetics was used to predict the minor track diameter of alpha particle. The influence of the amount of the layer removed from the detector surface, the angle of incidence and the energy on the minor track diameter as well as energy resolution of CN-85 detector for alpha particles were investigated. The obtained theoretical data showed that CN-85 can be used for high resolution alpha particle spectroscopy.
