Adaptive tuned vibration absorbers: Tuning laws, tracking agility, sizing, and physical implementations
Abstract
This paper surveys the tuned vibration absorber (and its variant, the tuned mass damper). The introduction offers a broad survey of physical implementations of passive absorbers. We then summarize steady-state tuning criteria and steady-state performance and emphasize the need for accurate tuning. We introduce the self-tuning absorber and quantify the limits of applicability for rapidly time-varying disturbances. We then offer a brief survey of existing self-tuning absorber implementations and tuning laws.
