Importance of crystallography in growth of pearlite

Even though there are now several reports of ledges in the pearlite/austenite interface, recent experimental observations seem to indicate that the effect of crystallography on the properties of the interface is relatively small or the ledges have been absent in those experiments. It seems that some orientation relationship between the two growing phases may be advantageous for the growth even though it is not necessary. This possibility has also been discussed for eutectics.
