Attractive interactions and phase separation in the Cu 4O 8 cluster with infinite on-site repulsions: A comparison with analytic solution for the CuO 2 plane
Abstract
Results of exact numerical calculations on a hole-doped Cu 4O 8 cluster with U d → ∞, U p → ∞ are presented and compared with analytic solution for the infinite CuO 2 plane. It is concluded that the size of the Cu 4O 8 cluster is sufficient to account for the effects of hole attraction and instability in the infinite two-dimensional system with strong short-range interactions.
