Quantum interference effects in icosahedral AlCuFe and its approximant.
Abstract
We have measured the low temperature magnetoconductivity, down to 400 mK and up to 20 T, for the rhombohedral R-Al 62.8Cu 26Fe 11.2 which is a very good approximant of the AlCuFe icosahedral phase. The results are compared with quasicrystalline phases of different compositions. By analysing the data we find for both quasicrystalline and crystalline systems the characteristic features of quantum interference effects including strong electron-electron interaction effects.
