The Study of Single and Double Ionization of Helium by Protons and Anti-Protons
Abstract
The topic of this dissertation is to study the single and double ionization of helium (He) by impact of fast protons and anti-protons. The observed ionization cross-sections by protons are well accounted for in this theoretical study for both the single and double ionization of He. Since there are no direct measurements of single and double ionization probabilities by anti-proton, our calculations may be looked upon as predictions to be tested by future experiments. However, the ratio of double to single ionization have been measured at a number of energies and the calculations presented here are in quantitative agreement with the data. FORTRAN 77 program is used in the IBM main frame to compute the results.
