Representation of arbitrary Mueller matrices in the basis of matrices of circular and linear anisotropy
Abstract
Existing methods for analyzing information contained in nondepolarizing Mueller matrices are considered. An original approach to the analysis of arbitrary Mueller matrices is proposed and its generality is demonstrated. The approach is based on the representation of the Jones matrix corresponding to the nondepolarizing part of the Mueller matrix in the basis of matrices of phase and amplitude anisotropy. On the basis of the values of six independent anisotropy parameters reported in this paper, a general classification system for polarization systems can be constructed and a synthesis of polarization systems with predetermined characteristics can be carried out.
