Geometrical treatment of contact pressure and tensile stress distribution in crossing fibres
Abstract
A consideration is given to the problem arising from fiber to fiber contacts in composite materials reinforced by fibrous structures. For calculation of static contact stresses in crossing fibers a mathematical mode is presented. The fibers are modelled as homogeneous cylinders of isotropic material exhibiting linear elastic behavior. The zone of intersection is assumed to have elliptical form. The results of breaking stress calculations are given for glass and alumina fibers.
