Kinematics of hot subdwarfs.
Abstract
We present the first results from a larger project in which the kinematics of hot subdwarfs are investigated. Proper motions are being determined for blue halo stars based on Carte du Ciel and recent plates. These, together with radial velocities (new data are presented), distances (from the literature), and a mass model for the galaxy, lead to the determination of the space motions of these objects. The kinematics of hot subdwarfs will be used for a determination of the population membership of these stars. The present small sample shows subdwarfs with a kinematical behaviour very similar to that of disk globular clusters. One of the objects has an apparent orbit reaching to z > 8 kpc and is thus a candidate Population II star; the other objects stay at z < 3 kpc.
