Modeling of the actuation mechanism in a beam structure with induced strain actuators
Abstract
In order to use induced strain actuators effectively, the actuation mechanism between the actuators and substructure must be completely understood and modeled accurately. In this paper, the induced strain actuation problem is converted to a boundary value problem. The resulting stress fields in each constituent are solved in closed-form in an approximate manner by the principle of stationary complementary energy. The formulation of the model is presented in detail along with numerical examples to show its capability.
