Heat transfer characteristics of a gas-to-gas heat exchanger based on radiative transfer: In the case of relatively low temperatures (750 - 900 K)
Abstract
The heat transfer characteristics of a gas-to-gas heat exchanger with permeable porous media were investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that in the case of relatively low working gas temperatures, i. e. from 750 to 900 K, the temperature distributions of the porous media are not affected by the emissive or absorptive powers of the working gas. The values of the overall coefficients of heat transfer are estimated, and even in the relatively low temperatures, the present heat exchanger is shown to have almost the same values as conventional high performance gas-to-gas heat exchangers. Effects of the emissivity and transmissivity of a separating wall on heat transfer are also examined, and by using a black or transparent separating wall, the overall coefficients of heat transfer are suggested to increase by about 1.5 or 2.3 times, respectively.
