The application of remote sensing to impending earthquake prediction
Abstract
The satellite IR temperature characteristics of the Ms 5.9 earthquake which occurred in Dongsha Archipelago in south China Sea on September 14, 1992 are described. Evolution of thermal IR anomaly is analyzed. Results indicate that in east China the temperature increasing precursors of medium and large earthquakes (Ms greater than or equal to 5.0) are predicted to appear 4-10 days before the main shock. A few earthquake precursors will begin about 30 days before the main shock like happened in the Sonid Youqi earthquake of Neimeng province.
