Columbus PMP Critical Technologies Program: Approach for materials life time prediction
Abstract
An approach to resolve the verification of materials extended life time behavior for the Columbus elements is described. The combination of the 10 to 30 years life time requirement, on orbit maintenance and repair led to a new strategy in materials selection and verification. This strategy, introduced as the 'PMP (Parts, Materials and Processes) Critical Technologies Program' also considers the schedule and funding constraints which require adaptation to the minimum program needs and pragmatic approaches.
