Adaptive/passive noise and vibration control
Abstract
Presented in this paper is a preliminary study investigating the use of intelligent vibration absorbers to reduce the amount of cabin noise in propeller driven aircraft. A numerical study integrating feedback control with an adaptable vibration absorber is presented. In addition, an experimental comparison between active control and passive control of noise inside a vibrating cylinder is presented. The performance of the intelligent vibration absorber is very robust with respect to the parameter changes in the controlled system as well as with respect to the uncertain, periodic, time-varying disturbances. From the experimental investigation, it is shown that a simple vibration absorber can achieve the same noise reduction that an active control scheme can achieve.
