Subcritical crack growth in elastic-plastic material with overshoot. I - Analytical modelling. II - Numerical results
Abstract
The physical modeling of crack growth with overshoot and analytical description of the elastic-plastic material that could be readily incorporated into the finite element formulation are presented. The center crack panel is numerically analyzed for different combinations of the specimen size, material type, and load increment. Results reveal that the amount of subcritical crack growth would decrease with increasing specimen size and could be overestimated by a wide margin if overshoot in crack growth is not accounted for.
