Cerenkov gamma telescope using the time distribution of Cerenkov radiation to search for astrophysical objects emitting in the energy range 10 exp 12 - 10 exp 14 eV
Abstract
A gamma telescope consisting of seven Cerenkov radiation detectors is described in which events are selected by arrival directions on the basis of the time distribution of Cerenkov radiation. The telescope has been erected in southern Bulgaria at 231 m above the sea level. The mean accuracy of determining the relative arrival times of signals from the detectors is 0.68 ns or better, making it possible to estimate the zenith angle of Cerenkov showers to within 0.3 deg or better.
