Semiclassical gravity and invisible axions
Abstract
We show that charged Eguchi-Hanson instantons represent a calculable, intrinsic quantum gravity breaking of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry. The size of such breaking depends sensitively on the short-distance details of a given theory, but is generically suppressed by multifermion zero modes. We also explain conditions to solve the strong-CP and the domain wall problems under such quantum gravity effects.
