Stimulated Rayleigh-line wing scattering in nematic liquid crystals
Abstract
The effect of self-focusing on the backward stimulated Rayleigh-line wing scattering (SRWS) is investigated in the quasi-optical approximation. It is shown that the characteristic longitudinal spatial scale on which stimulated scattering develops and the gain increment depend on the parameter alpha = 1-P/P(cr), where P is the pumping power and P(cr) is the critical self-focusing power. The correlation function and gain increment of the stimulated scattering radiation in isotropic-phase nematic liquid crystals are derived. Features of SRWS correlation function behavior near the phase transition are discussed.
