Third Decennial US-USSR Conference on SETI
Abstract
Various papers on SETI are presented. Individual topics addressed include: prospects for using Soviet DSN antennas for SETI, CW detector for the NASA Targeted Search, symmetry in SETI, new method for determining the merits of SETI, stochastic approach to nonrandom signal analysis, detection of unknown signals, interstellar scintillation and SETI, search for extrasolar system planets, search for extrasolar planets via precise velocities, formation of planetary systems in the Galaxy, the planet around PSR 1829-10, astrophysical constraints on exobiological habitats, target selection strategy for NASA's SETI MOP. Also discussed are: astrophysical masers as amplifiers of ETI signals, the SERENDIP SETI Project, SETI activities in Argentina, SETI site surveys of RFI from 1.0 to 10.4 GHz, the NASA SETI Microwave Observing Project Targeted Search, the NASA SETI Microwave Observing Project Sky Survey, potential for millimeter-wave SETI, search for infrared laser signals, results of the MANIA experiment, astrosociological paradox in SETI, aesthetics of SETI.
