Infrared and submillimetric emission lines from the envelopes of dark clouds.
Abstract
We have computed the intensities of some infrared and wavelength emission lines expected from the photodissociated/photoionized envelopes of dark interstellar clouds. New atomic data pertaining to the collisional excitation of the fine structure transitions of C and O were incorporated in the model. The structure of the H/H2 and C(+)/C/CO transition regions was determined using the most recent molecular data and 'exact' numerical solution of the line transfer problem. The equation of thermal balance was solved in each sector of the model. The computed intensities of the O I63 microns, C II 158-microns and Si II 35-micron lines were used to estimate the exposure times that will be required to observe these transitions with the ISO satellite.
