Space Station Freedom Mobile Servicing System - Moving into the manufacturing phase

The Mobile Servicing System, Canada's contribution to Space Station Freedom, is entering the flight hardware manufacturing phase. The changes resulting from Freedom's 1990/91 restructuring have been accommodated during the past year, and the detailed design of the first Canadian element to be launched, the Space Station Remote Manipulator System, has been essentially completed. Progress in the detailed design of the other elements is commensurate with their launch schedule. Preparation for the operations and utilization phase of Freedom is proceeding, and potential users are being developed by employing a variety of facilities for preparatory experimental work prior to the availability of Space Station.
