Reconstruction of (x, Q squared) and extraction of structure functions in neutral current scattering at HERA
Abstract
A method of extracting the kinematic variables in neutral current deeply inelastic scattering at HERA (German acronym for hadron electron storage ring) is presented. A determination of x and Q(sup 2) using the angles of the electron and current jet only turns out to be remarkably powerful. A method for determining x and Q(sup 2) that is insensitive to initial state radiation is achieved. Structure functions F(sub 2) and xF(sub 3) are extracted and the systematic errors are studied. The use of several (x, Q(sup 2)) reconstruction methods, each with different systematic errors will provide complementarity and redundancy for structure function analysis.
