The application of miniaturisation technology to transponder component design
Abstract
The paper discusses the application of new miniaturization technology to satellite transponder electronics. The technologies applied; miniature hybrid microwave integrated circuits, surface mount techniques and the use of new high performance materials are discussed in detail. A brief description of an enhanced design process is included that presents examples of measured and modeled circuit elements. Examples of developed products such as SSPAs receivers and gain blocks are examined that demonstrate the size, mass and performance improvements possible.
