Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite attitude determination and control
Abstract
On September 12, 1991, the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) was launched into orbit aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Since its activation, the Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem (ADCS) has continued to meet or exceed all performance requirements. This paper describes the ADCS and its requirements specific to the UARS mission. Predicted attitude determination and controller performance is compared against flight data. The results confirm that the 60-arcsec knowledge requirement and that the 108-arcsec pointing requirement are satisfied.
