Computer simulation of viscoelastic flows using a new class of finite elements
Abstract
In this work a family of second order finite element methods for the solution of viscoelastic flow problems in two-dimension space is considered. The adequacy and optimality of the extra-stress tensor representation for triangles or quadrilaterals in the plane case, that characterize these methods, was justified by a formal analysis, in the framework of the underlying Stokes system. Here these convergence results are supported by a number of computer simulations for some classical test problems in viscoelasticity.
