Ground-based Doppler radio refractometry of the atmosphere
Abstract
A precise correlation linking the Doppler shift of satellite radio emission and an astronomical refraction magnitude made it possible to reduce the problem of retrieving the vertical profile of the refraction index to solving the reverse refraction problem. The observation angle range at which the measurements are informative is determined. A numerical simulation is employed to obtain statistic estimates of the possible retrieval accuracy for different climatic sets and also to determine requirements for measurement accuracy of the Doppler frequency and orbital parameters.
