The possibility of REB focusing and transport in dense gases in the field of a high-power surface electromagnetic wave
Abstract
A technique for the focusing of ultrarelativistic electron beams is presented which uses an open plasmaguide with an excited surface electromagnetic wave (SEMW) as the focusing structure. The field configuration in the SEMW is suitable for the creation of a potential 'trough' for transporting the beam. In addition, by varying the geometrical and electrophysical characteristics of the plasma channel as well as the frequency of the excited wave, this system makes it possible to achieve an optimal scale of inhomogeneity and relation of fields in the SEMW.
