Effect of Fe(3+) impurity ions on the lasing characteristics of Y3Al5O12:Nd, Fe crystals
Abstract
Data are presented on the effect of Fe(3+) impurity ions on the lasing characteristics of YAG:Nd, Fe crystals, and it is shown that changes in the characteristics are due solely to effects associated with optical pumping. The use of Fe(3+) - Nd(3+) sensitization leads to an effect similar to that achieved with luminescent filters. It is found that, in YAG:Nd crystals coactivated by Fe(3+) ions, the effects of absorption from the excited states of Fe(3+) ions lead to an increase in intracavity losses.
