Investigation of radiation conditions on board the Cosmos-1514 satellite
Abstract
The radiation conditions on the orbit of the Cosmos-1514 satellite are investigated using nuclear photoemulsion developed by the 'threshold' method. The LET spectra of cosmic-ray charged particles were measured in a wide dE/dx range in stacks situated on two orthogonal planes inside the satellite and in an external container. The energy spectra of fast neutrons were also measured. The total absorbed and equivalent doses inside and outside the satellite as well as the mean quality factor of radiation were measured in conditions where the satellite's orbit was close to a polar one. The good agreement between the experimental and the calculated values of the doses makes it possible to study radiation conditions on board satellites with the aid of only one type of detector: nuclear photoemulsions with development thresholds controllable over dE/dx.
