Study on contact stresses of cylindrical gears acted by dynamic loads
Abstract
The paper investigates an approach to local finite element mesh refinement for three-dimensional elastic contact problems. Using this approach, an effective method is developed for the calculation of the contact stresses of spur and helical gears during the whole engagement period. Calculations are carried out for the contact stresses on different contact lines of a pair of aeronautical helical gears acted upon by dynamic and static loads of the gear system. It is shown that this method and the corresponding computer programs yield fast and reliable calculations, as compared with Aeronautical Standard of China HB/Z84, 2-84 methods.
