Ionospheric-plasmaspheric interactions and the presunrise effect in the sporadic E layer
Abstract
A model of ionospheric-plasmaspheric interactions is used to show that the presunrise 'burst' in the parameters of the thin sporadic E layer can be explained by reference to coupling effects between conjugate hemispheres without recourse to an Alfven-wave mechanism. It is noted that a model of the midlatitude ionosphere with allowance for variations of the thin Es layer parameters including the presunrise effect can be used to calculate short-wave paths.
