Results of measurements of the concentration of negative ions in the polar stratosphere
Abstract
The paper presents vertical concentration profiles of negative ions in the troposphere and lower stratosphere measured above the Arctic using ionosondes in the winters of 1988-1989 and 1990-1991. It is shown that the negative-ion concentration in the stratosphere can serve as an effective indicator of solar and geomagnetic activity, as well as of the atmospheric composition.
